Why managers who have different types of personalities can be equally effective and successful.
Managers with different personalities bring these different behavior or traits such as extraversion, negative affectivity, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to experience. Each manager will control his or her subordinate with the personality they have. While open and social managers may win over their subordinates and can get the desired results as employees generally feel comfortable and welcomed; and, their high morale generally helps with increased output, subordinates under strict and quiet observant manager will try to increase their performance to impress their boss.
Moreover, there are many industries in the world we live in. Like a skill set, each industry needs different set of behavior. A detail oriented introvert technical person maybe successful while as an extrovert salesman will be more successful in his own field. Similarly strict administrative officer will be successful in implementing policies whereas a quiet and open to experience lab scientist manager will get desired results as well because that is the behavior his environment requires. If a manager lacks any skill set which is absolutely necessary for the job they are doing, people have tendency to learn these new behaviors or traits required to be successful in their field and once they pick up on one of these chances of their becoming successful increase many folds.
Can managers be too satisfied with their job? Can they be too committed to their organizations? Why or why not?
Managers can become too satisfied with their job. As people keep on working on the same jobs for very long periods, they generally have tendency to become satisfied.
There could be several reasons for this behavior, following are some of them:
They develop a comfort zone around them; and, they are scared of stepping out of it. They do the same job day in, day out for many years; and, eventually they learn all the skills needed to achieve the desired results. At this point, they do not have to learn anything new and they start becoming more and more satisfied. This is the main reason many old timers resist change.
Secondly, people start realizing that this is all they have done all their life, this is all they know and they may fail if they try new job. This fear could be so high that they start finding the satisfaction from their current job.
