Fire incidents have become one of the worst adversities of humankind. Every year the destruction to properties caused by fires can be summed up into millions of pesos, not to mention the accompanying loss of life in many instances. Most of the time, the reason for fire is due to negligence and carelessness among individuals. Though this misfortune cannot be entirely avoided, this uncontrollable disaster can be detected before it can cause serious damage to life and property.

Minimizing the damage caused by fire in buildings, establishments and houses may be done by installing at least one fire detector. Fire detectors warn residents about the presence of fire. Functionally, the device contains a smoke or heat sensor, a comparator, power amplifier and a siren. An annoying sound is triggered when fire is detected.

Unfortunately, there are instances that though fire had been detected there were individuals not present in the area to put out the fire on time. This may lead to huge fire and affect nearby establishments and residences. When this happen nearby residents desperately called for help over radio stations or fire stations as the fire quickly spread and gobble tightly clustered houses. The delayed response to this call my lead to increase casualties and damage to properties.

It is a fact that nowadays, almost everyone owns a mobile phone which is considered as a essential need and the key player to wireless technology, the proponents were inspired to develop an "SMS-based Fire Alarm System" to provide an automatic warning to nearby fire stations to the location where fire incident happens and to alert residents whenever a fire is detected.

This study will focus on the creation of a system that will sent a bulk SMS to mobile phones once the fire is detected. The system is open to all GSM Service Provider provided that the mobile number of the concerned parties must be registered first. The maximum number of person is dependent on the availability of the load.

Specifically, the study will use the software that has been designed to work with any ETSI 07.05 compliant GSM Modem that supports sending and receiving of SMS in PDU mode. This includes Nokia 6610 and 8250 which will be used in the study.

The system will not work when there is a power failure. The study does not cover the integration of secondary power source to the system such as batteries or generator set. The system is also limited to places where there is a GSM Service Provider signal.
