Application Essay
Some angels born in the world in the shape of human beings, their virtues are of angels but their appearance is like human beings. For some people they act as bright candles, which take their lives out of deep darkness to shining sunlight. For me, this angel was in the form of Mrs. Olson, an old woman with a motherly figure. She had white hair, elderly sparkling eyes with wrinkles on the sides and dimples in her cheeks. She was my school librarian, who helped me learn English as an international student, because I moved here just a few years back and it was quite difficult for me to get familiar with the complex rules of English language so soon. However, with her help and guidance I improved my English, which proved to be plateful for me to get success in many of my works. She did not only help me academically but also put her warm and loving hands on my head when I was away from my family and kin. Whenever I would get depressed because of being far from my family, she would come to me to show her immense love and care as if I was a part of her family.
Initially she used to lend me books that helped me a lot in learning basic concepts of English along with that she would also give me some exercises to practice at home to make my learning easier. She used to talk to me at a snail's pace, so that I could understand every word of her. She never got irritated of repeating a word a hundred times rather she would say it again with a cute smile, so that I do not get embarrassed. Gradually she started giving me the books of higher level as I was improving. She used to take tests from me including written and oral. She never scolded me on any mistake she would always give a thorough explanation of all the mistakes and correct me in a careful manner. She is the one who created passion inside me to write and speak English fluently and confidently.
We used to go to watch English movies, after that we used to have dinners together and have long conversations in English. She would tell me about her children and husband and I would share the memories of my childhood and my country. Her stories showed that she had a courage; of doing good for others, enthusiasm; of being so zealous even in an old age, humility; of being humble to others and charm; of inspiring others. She is an influential personality for me, not only because she taught me English and gave me so much love, but because she had an integrity and audacity to live for others. She had a charisma, which could attract many people and make them her followers.
What I am today, and what I will be doing in future pertinent to English is only because of this wonderful woman. Had she not helped me, I would have never been able to write this essay. For me she is the real hero and changing factor of my life. I want to be such charismatic personality for someone, as she was for me; because being influenced from someone is good but
