Demonstrative Communication

Demonstrative communication is the process of sending and receiving messages and involves exchanging thoughts and information. This type of communication is used to reinforce verbal communication as well as to convey messages. Communication helps to understand a person or situation, build trust and respect, resolve differences and solve problems. It also involves active listening. A effective listener will focus on what the speaker is saying, avoid interrupting the speaker, avoid judgmental statements and will show full interest in what is be expressed.

Nonverbal communication can be shown by body language, eye contact, posture, mannerism, gestures, and voice tone and body movement. If you do not give a person eye contact, they may think that you are not listening to what he/she is saying. Your facial expression can also be an important part of communication. The speaker will be able to tell if you are glad to hear the message, mad about the message, or uninterested in the message by the expression on your face. The way you look, move, listen and react tell more about your feeling than being verbal. Nonverbal communication should reinforce what is said verbally.

The function of effective communication is to relay a message in a way that the listener understands it. Effective communication is making eye contact with the person who is speaking, listening to what is being said and not interrupting the speaker. It gives people information they need to be educated and enlighten. An example of effective communication would be talking on the phone while the speaker is talking, texting when someone is talking to you, interrupting the speaker not giving eye contact or just being rude toward the speaker,

You can achieve effective communication if you pause before responding, be trustworthy and honest, don't rush the communication, adapt your ideas to others, stay in the moment, pay attention to the non-verbal cues, be understanding, be patient and open-minded and ask for feedback from others. We must be able to convey and receive message that are given without having any misunderstanding.
