"Love is an action; marriage a contract agreement and relationships are work." (Lori Gordon)
Everyone has different life experienceswhich fortify and add to a person's strengths and weaknesses; I am no different. I have the ability to truly understand a person in precarious circumstances and can relate and empathize with what a person is going through. There are times when a different perspective on a situation can make all the difference, which is why I passionately believe in counseling.
After the completion of my undergraduate studies in 2011, I was able to secure a job with a behavioral intervention company as a behavioral specialist. While working with special needs children and adults, it became more apparent that maladaptive, self-injurious, psychotic behaviors seem to be a product of their familial relationships and environment, than a function of their personal handicap. Over the past year while watching the growth of clients, I have learned that fostering, nurturing, and the effort put forth in relationships are a deciding factor in the severity of domestic dysfunction. Having the opportunity first hand to witness the successes of my clients has been reaffirming for me. Seeing so much good and happiness come from, what at first seemed to be impossible situations, allows me to clearly see that God has a plan and an unseen guiding hand in all that He does.
California Baptist University is my top choice because of its Christian roots. Over the years I have struggled with my faith. I wrestle with what I have been taught to believe and what I know to be true. I am looking forward to attending a Christian university.
I believe California Baptist University will help me foster a better understanding of my faith and allow me to develop a source of strength, hope, and empowerment for others. I am confident CBU will be a healthy learning environment that encourages questioning ones views as an essential part of coming to terms with my own Christian beliefs and values.
