Informative Speech: Comm3356
Good afternoon fellow SCC employees!
Has anyone here seen that research file that we just finished?
Okay, for those of you who don’t know me, my name is Melanie Ebert and as a member of the Planning and Research Dept, this is exactly what I would like to talk to you about today… Research Efficiency!
Research efficiency is not just about finding the information that you need, but also about knowing what to research, and how you and others can access that research later. The Center for Logistics and Transportation Policy, directed by Amy Garret of the University of Houston, has developed 3 tools for more efficient research: Her business team has had great success with these three tools: they are known as the Suggestion Box, the Tool Box, and R Box. After six months of in-house research and trials, SCC has adopted these 3 tools, and their icons can be found loaded on all SCC desktops.
The 1st tool, the Suggestion Box is a platform for SCC employees to ask for research assistance from the Planning and Research Dept. This is a helpful tool to not only submit research ideas, but also to pass off ownership if a research topic has become complex and requires special attention. These are topics which research has already been started, but the Planning and Research Dept. will complete.
The 2nd tool available to SCC employees is the Tool Box. The Tool Box includes a list of research resources and links that SCC subscribes to. These are free to SCC employees, but you will need to use you SCC ID and password to log-in for access to research resources, such as benchmarking and financial analysis.
The 3rd tool is R Box. Not only is it “our box”, but it is also R Box!
The Research Institute of America has estimated that the use of these tools will improve research efficiency by as much as 40%. The Planning and Research Dept. wants you to be successful, so remember to look for the 3 research box icons on your desktop: the Suggestion Box, the Tool Box, and R Box.
Does anyone have any questions for me? Seeing none… If you think of any questions later, please contact one of the Planning and Research Dept. members… me: Melanie, Karrie, or Jake.
Good luck in your research, and thank you for stopping by.
