Introduction: Facebook has been successful from day one.

Thesis: Facebook's decision to go public has a rocky start now, but should normalize and become a strong company to be associated with.

Outline:

I. Origin of Facebook

A. Facebook started with Facemash

1. Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Chris Hughes, Dustin Moskovitz

2. Photos from school pictures database paired together to choose which was "hotter"

B. Facemash inspired the design and creation of Thefacebook

1. January 2004 - Mark Zuckerberg began writing code for Thefacebook

2. February 2004 - Zuckerberg launched Thefacebook

C. Named changed from Thefacebook to just Facebook

1. October 2005 - expanded to 21 universities and later on expanded to companies such as Apple and Microsoft

2. September 2006 - Facebook allowed anyone age 13+ with a valid email address to register for a webpage

II. Present status of Facebook

A. May 18 2012 - Facebook went public with its shares at $38

1. Stocks increased only 23 cents after day one

2. As of May 25, shares are valued at just under $32

B. Facebook's revenue comes mostly from ad's

III. Future of Facebook

A. Facebook is trying to become a major player in cloud networking

1. Cloud networking allows the ability to save and share files from the internet

2. Accessible from any device connected to the internet through Wi-Fi or 3g/4g

B. Facebook will continue to monitor trends and will further their ability to perform social analysis

1. This will allow for the ability to see trends before they happen which can be used as a major source of social information

Conclusion: Facebook has been successful from day one and will continue to be a strong company that will be associated with not only social networking but has the strong foundation to be part of cloud computing.
