​There are many contemporary communication technologies used today such as; computers, smart phones, internet, Skype, text messaging, email, snap chat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and so on. These technologies are all light, transportable and can be transmitted over long distances, making them space-biased. YES. Even though the technologies today are spaced-biased, the technologies still reveal and teach us today of the information and content gained from space-biased and time-biased communication combined. HOW DOES INNIS DEFINE THESE TERMS? In today's western society space-biased has a way of communicating faster through all the types of technology to communicate new and old ideas from and around the entire globe!

Yes, we are living in a day and age where space-biased technology is dominant. It is easy to see the dominance of space-biased communication in our society. Teachers now have their students hand in assignments online versus handing in a hard copy. University is very common to be completed over the internet. If you go out to eat with family or friends and observe, you will see people playing games on their smart phones, text messaging and or talking. In the past it was rude to have your phone out at a social gathering, now we are text messaging people at the same table!

​The technologies we have today definitely affect the way our society thinks and is organized. Ideas are spread around the world faster than ever. People make Facebook groups that so anyone who has the internet or access to it can be a part of it. Whether it is a support group or a hobby there is something out there for everyone to be a part of. People have access to information about politics, where they work, friends, family and much, much more. The news or an event doesn't just make the TV anymore it is virally blasted over the internet through videos, blogs, forms, and personal websites. Our society has become less social and more technological. I feel like people are developing less social skills because they can be whoever they want behind the technology. In some work environments it is becoming more acceptable to text message you supervisor for a sick call! IS INNIS A TECHNOLOGICAL DETERMINIST?

The connections Havelock made between alphabetic literacy and rational thought are that it provided a foundation for civilization in our society. Without it we may still be writing on rocks and touchscreens may not exist. It provided the world with widespread literacy and changed the way humans think. YOU MIGHT ELABORATE HERE ON HAVELOCK'S POSITION.

Alphabetical literacy is the best thing for democracy, we can communicate, use all sources of information to further our learning and there is no need for memorization. We can now learn information and understand it using up less "brain space" allowing us to learn about all types of other information. This allows us to be
