Demonstrative Communication
Demonstrative communication is the process in which messages are sent and received. Communication entails the exchange of information, thoughts or messages, via speech, written, non-written, signals, or form of behavior. Communication is expressed in writing or in visual form, which is either verbal or nonverbal. Verbal communication involves spoken or written communication, where non-verbal communication is expressed via facial or body expressions or gestures.
Demonstrative communication involves nonverbal and unwritten communications which is used to support verbal communication. This occurs by complimenting what is being said with facial or body expression or hand gestures. It is extremely important to make sure that the verbal communication and facial or body expression and gestures are sending the same message. Thus, allowing the sender and receiver to be on the same page. For example, when preparing for a speech at for a conference or presentation, using the correct tone and refraining from any unnecessary hand or body gestures will help the audience stay engage. The body language used will speak to the speaker's behavior and support the verbal communication throughout the speech, thus, resulting in a positive and effective communication. Another example is when meeting people at a conference or social event. When greeting someone, usually a smile, eye contact and the use of a friendly tone is expressed, sometime a firm handshake is used as well. This body language allows the person being greeted to feel comfortable. These gestures are sending the same message as the verbal communication and providing an effective and positive result. If the opposite is expressed, then an ineffective or negative communication can result. The verbal and nonverbal communication is not sending the same message. It is important to remember that expressions are interpreted to measure positive or negative feedback from the person that is being interacted with. Setting the proper demonstrative communication is essential to resulting in an effective or ineffective result.
Another form of demonstrative communication is self expression. This is how a person presents them self and how they are perceived to and by others. Factors in self-expression that are effective are how they dress. For example Donald Trump is highly respected, not only because of his knowledge and power, but because of how he dresses and carries himself. All these factors allow Donald Trump to have an effective communication on the media.
Demonstrative communication is a part of every day and it is rarely even notice that it is happening. This is why being effective or ineffective is so important in everyday communication. When engaging in demonstrative communication people should be careful how demonstrative communication is used, as it can be the difference between positive or negative
