Poverty. What is it? How can we stop it? Why does poverty exist? Poverty even the name sounds bad. In this essay I want to give you an understanding of what poverty is, why we have it on a global scale, what measures are the countries with extreme poverty taking to help decrease the poverty in their country. I also want to convey so ideas to help reduce the poverty level on a global level. Poverty will never go away, it cannot go away. It's impossible to eliminate poverty on a global level. The definition of poverty is the state of being poor. Not having enough money to provide the 3 basic needs food, clothing, and housing. The top 10 poverty ridden countries are the Democratic Republic of the Congo, after the civil war in 1998 this country fell apart. Republic of Liberia, this country was brought to its knees with the decline in export commodities and the civil war in 1990. Republic of Zimbabwe, in 2008 the currency exchange was $25 million dollar to $1 American dollar. The Solomon Islands, in 2007 a major earthquake and tsunami in the islands destroying many of the fisheries. The steep decline in exotic woods helped to cripple there economy. Republic of Somalia, there has been no central government in Somalia since 1991, but despite the lack of a government the economy has grown 2.6% since 1994. The economy is based mainly off of livestock. Union of the Comoros, rapid population growth and poor economy has made Comoros struggle as of late. Guinea-Bissau, farming and fishing are the two main stays of their poor economy. HIV is a major problem for the country. Central African Republic, agriculture is the main pillar in this extremely unstable economy. The average life expectancy in 43 years old and over 13% of the country is at risk of AIDS. Niger, 63% of the population lives off of less than $1 per day. Extreme drought and high population rates creates a bad mixture for any economy. The adult literacy rate is less than 15%. The life expectance is less than 46 years of age. Disease reigns supreme is Niger. Ethiopia, over 50% of the population lives in poverty; over half of their GDP is based off of agricultural activity. Disease runs rapid through Ethiopia. Poverty it's probably the saddest word in the dictionary. How can we eliminate it? Truth is we can't. No graph, no statistic can ever show you a way to eliminate poverty. The rapid population growth in the world has contributed to the increase in poverty. The global economy has also hindered these poverty stricken countries. The lack of education and agricultural skills has also hampered these countries. Education is key to poverty the lack of financial knowledge creates poverty. The reason I'm going back to school to get my finance degree isn't so I can get a high paying job at a bank or financial institution.
