Family, a word that so many know, but only few understand. The family is considered to be one of the greatest values for every person. Our family gives us the basic knowledge of ideals, beliefs and human values. Families are the foundation of society .

Families provide children with a sense of belonging and a unique identify. They are a source of emotional support, comfort, warmth, nurturing, protection and security. Family relationships provide children with a critical sense of being valued and with a vital network of historical linkages and social support. Family is a giving and taking of love and empathy by every family member.

In the past few decades, the world has seen major changes in the face of the family. The rate of divorcing is increasing which also result in the increase of single-parent family household, remarriages and extended families.

Family types have undergone significant changes and it plays an integral role in children's development.

1. Nuclear family:

A nuclear family consists of a mother, father and their children. These types of family have the advantage of having relationships with siblings which give them the opportunity to have assistance while they are growing up. In many countries like in Europe and North America this is the common form of family. The nuclear family was popular in the 1950s and 60s.

The nuclear family can be a nurturing environment as long as there is love, time to spend with children, emotional support, low stress and a stable economic environment. In nuclear families, both adults are the biological or adoptive parents of their children

There are three types of nuclear family.

In the first type, the father works outside the home while the mother stays home caring for the children.

In the second type, the mother works outside the home while the father stays home caring for the children.

In the third type which now a day we are seeing it, both the mother and the father works outside the home.
