Family

Family and its relations is one of the best methods to describe and present a culture customs. In the Latino culture family is the most important aspect of life. According to Liz's experience family bonding is a key word for the cultural development. For instance, Liz recalls been thought traditional rhymes by her grandmother at a very young age that were rhymes specific only to her culture. In advance, until this day Liz herself is passing this tradition on her children therefore allowing tradition to be passed from generation to generation. Liz also recalls experiencing family bonding through constant family gatherings for several reasons. Liz recalls the family gathering to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. She also recalls the family gathering simply to increase family relationships and bonding. Yet the family connections are so important that Liz and her family were gathering on a regular basis every week to maintain their relationships. For example, Liz recalls that as she was growing up her family would either come to her home or she would go visit other family members and grill a large meal for the entire family in which they bonded with relatives and sometimes family friends as well. During her family gatherings, Liz recalls the large meals cooked consisting of grilled chicken, grilled meat, potato salad, beans, and Mexican rice. The Mexican rice was a traditional recipe that has been passed down in family from generation to generation. Liz stated that she herself has been thought how to prepare the Mexican rice and is planning on teaching her children the recipe as well when they are old enough to start cooking. Liz stated that during her family gatherings they would also listen to Mexican music out loud and sometimes even sing along to any favorite songs that brought back good memories.
