Freedom writers

The expectations for these kids portrayed in the movie aren't set very high, as most of them are subject to gang violence everyday, even from when they were just little kids. All they truly care about is trying to make it though the day without getting shot; they could honestly care less about the education that is presented to them. The main thing to them- more important then education- is honor for there neighbor hood, dying with respect as they put it, they don't think education is going to help them, the only way they feel that they will make money is if they can dribble a ball or rap.

Ms.Gruwell, more then anyone, has the highest hope for the students. She sees their problems and how they have to live and becomes obsessed with trying to change them, to try and make them graduate; most of them would be the first in their families. She does not except failure, or giving up, which makes her expectations for them the greatest. The teacher across the hall that teaches the honors class on the other hand has not one bit of hope for them. He feels that they should just leave now because they are a waste of time, and that there is no hope in their future.

The parents of the kids in the class of the freedom writers must not have that high of expectations for them as they have let this come about. Most of the parents are locked up in prison or to busy with other things in their life. I don't understand how living in red light districts would not be a good enough motivator for them to do good and get the hell out of there.

Nature vs. nurture plays a part in the movie because of the background that the student has grown up in basically effects their ability to learn in a class. The nature has truly decided the outcome for kids of all ages all around the world, which is very saddening.
