EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This paper will elaborate on my opinion about the fine line between being a great mid level manager and being able to move to a higher level management even with great skills. Through this paper, I will show that it is very important to be an expert in your specialized area of capabilities and knowledge as a mid-level manager but also that it is not enough to land that promotion as a high level manager with just the attributes required for your current position even if you excel at it. I agree with this statement from Professor: "Success in functional or middle areas does not necessarily translate as evidence that managers can succeed at higher levels". I will present my opinion using my experience and my leadership profile both from the first and post assessments.
OPINION DEVELOPMENT
Developing competencies and knowledge in your specialized area of expertise as a mid level manager is very important in an organization in order to prove that you can handle your responsibilities. Depending on how versatile you are when facing challenges or giving your opinions determines your ability to handle a higher level position and your limitations. The notion of going above and beyond and understanding when and how to divert from your ways is crucial in an organization especially if you are looking for growth.
