Global warming has been an issue that has been in the back of everybody's mine for many of years. Many people believed that global warming was a myth saying that there is no way the earth can increase in temperature. Only to there surprise people began to realize that global warming is not a myth and if continued the effect will be devastating. There are many causes for global warming one is a natural cause and another is a man made cause, caused by humans.
One the main natural causes of global warming is called the greenhouse effect. This is when the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere act like a mirror and reflect back. The higher the concentration of green house gases like carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the more heat energy is being reflected back to the Earth. There gases include water vapor, carbon dioxide , methane and ozone gas. The emission of these gases has been increase dramatically over the past 30 years. Another natuaral cause is said to be that the earth goes through a climate change every 30- 40,000 years.
Man made causes are the most damaging contribution to global warming. The burning of fossil fuels are on eof the biggist man made problem. Burning resources such as coal and oil used cars allows the greenhouse gas methane to release in the air causing the greenhouse effect. Also methane is found in the ground so coal mining plays a role in releasing this gas because in order to get the coal you have to dig it up releasing methane.
Our growing population is another cause because the more people you have the more resources we use up. Examples include our means of transportation, nine out of ten people drive cars or use public transportation. Cars and any form of transportation run on gas, gas is in such high demand now that more coal has to be used in order to fill this need. Also because society is increasing the demand for housing is growing resorting to many of our trees to cut down to make room for property. Because we breathe out carbon dioxide cutting our trees down can eliminate the process of converting co2 into oxygen.
Now that you know what causes global warming the effects start to take place. The number one efffect is temperature increase. Higher temperatures causes a pattern of extreme weather. Starting with the melting of the ice glaciers, which causes the sea level to increase killling many of the animals in that region. Some animals can adapt to change but if its brought on rapidly animal and different species become extinct. Higher temperature is also the blame for servere weather, ie tropical storms, devastating hurricanes , flooding and long periods of droughts.
The climate changs effects the agriculture grow. Droughts dry out land causing crops not to grow and insects to increase because of the temperature. Humans may also suffer from global warming because of the diminishing of crops can result in rationing of food. Temperature increase can cause heat related problems
