Bureaucracy in my workplace is quite beneficial. It provides structure and control amongst the fifty seven personnel and the myriad of equipment that I am responsible for. My job is centered on the routine maintenance and operation of equipment and machinery. This type of environment poses constant threats and can be dangerous if and when errors
are made. Because of the rules and procedures we have in place on how each piece of equipment must be operated. This enhances the protection and precision of the operation of each piece of gear. It also helps me to maintain the safety of personnel.
Secondly, positions are ordered by hierarchy. We are all obligated to follow the chain of command. In the event of disputes which cannot be resolved with individuals in my immediate chain of command, I am afforded that opportunity address those issues with the next higher authority.
Thirdly, bureaucracy allows me to manage my department effectively and efficiently. Because of the division of labor, the focused attention causes an increase in knowledge among my workers. As time progresses, they
become experts at what they do. With the increased knowledge their performance level elevates and they perform tasks without being told.
Finally, the relationship between me and my enlisted members is of a strict professional nature. The professionalism and the respect portrayed in my work place
allow me to treat each individual fairly and equally. It reduces favoritism and prejudice. I am able to evaluate each sailor based on their performance and not because of personal reasons. Because of this trait, most sailors go above and beyond what is routinely required of them. They do extra work and obtain higher qualifications knowing they will be rewarded.
Bureaucracy in my workplace is quite beneficial. It provides structure and control. Without these traits, the environment in which I work will be unorganized and chaotic.
