Language as a means of communication is an integral part of human life. It is generally agreed that language and the ability to create language is what separates humankind from the rest of creation. With language, we have built cities, civilizations, art, and an understanding of the world around us. We depend on it to think and communicate. It is through language that thoughts and knowledge are exchanged and conveyed. There is no doubt that words are powerful tools. Sartre's statement praises this important point, suggesting that words may be more deceptive and powerful than we think.

"Sticks and stones may hurt my bones, but words will never hurt me". This is completely false because words do hurt. Words can destruct one's self-esteem and joy of life. As a matter of fact words hurt more than sticks and stones. For instance; if someone calls you fat on your back, it destroys you emotionally. Physical pain can be healed, but it is very hard to heal an emotional pain. A harsh word is undoubtedly more painful than a blow to the face, because a harsh word is a blow to the heart. Our life can be changed with a single word. Words can be bullets to the heart penetrating through your flesh until you explode with pain.

Words affect different areas of knowledge. The most evident effects of words lie in the human sciences. Psychology and psychiatry rely almost entirely on the verbal input of the subject. This allows for a deeper understanding than the scanning of brainwaves or behavioural observations without motives. This is a major positive influence of words. It is often said that human behaviour is unpredictable, and that this is what makes it impossible to study humans scientifically. But our everyday interactions depend on the fact that we do, most of the time, think we know how other people will respond to what we say or do. The manipulation and selection of language can rally people together by limiting their knowledge
