Being employed is the most common routine people have around the world. Just like fashion or technology it changed over time. In the early 80's there was few jobs to have, and very low salaries. There were no benefits, and there was not any insurance with work. Five to six days a week you would work. Strict dress code, blue jeans were not allowed, if you were a women you would have worn heals, stockings, skirt, or a nice dress. Lateness was not acceptable at work, if you missed more than 3 days in a month period you would be fired, and if you had a doctor's excuse that did not matter. Employees must finish their work before they left, and if it was time to get off and you were not finished you stayed longer and you didn't get paid for staying over time. My nana worked with computer systems where info could be inputted, but no acces or ability to organize info on request. She could only get print out information which had to be researched page by page, line item by line item. Nana had to put in a programming request to the IS department to compile the information in the format that she needed. She still received a mountain of paper work to search through. No Internet acess, so people in the work force relied on reference books and the good ol library. They had no cell phones to call people only an office phone which they could not use for their own personal calls, if there was an emergency at the house the person at the house would have to talk with the manager to get approval then if okayed could leave. Employees could also smoke at their desks. They used fax machines to send stuff. They also used Manuel type writers and it was not electric. When she typed papers there could be no errors if an error occurred she had to start all over again from the beginning of that page.

All of these past work habits contradict the present ones fully. Most people still have to abide by dress codes, but it is not as strict and some work places you can wear jeans. The advancements in tecnonlogy really changed things. Everything from google to microsoft word soared businessess into what they are today. Cell phones were an enormous help as well. Now almost every job has benefits, insurance, vacation time, and many other things. Time changes everything, and will continue to change things. Generations from now, what we know may not even exist anymore.
