My name is Sondra Saylors I am 42 from Douglasville, GA. I'm the proud mother of 2 grown sons David my oldest is 23 he presently is deployed in Afghanistan as a Navy crewman. Joshua is 21 he is attending college studying to become an engineer.
As for myself I started my life as a premature baby. I was one of two babies delivered on January 26, 1969. Due to my early arrival I was subsequently given an over dosage of oxygen which later caused me to become blind. With that being said my handicap caused me very early in life to develop an attitude I can do anything I set my mind to. I always seemed to be in a rush to do things my mom jokingly said I was in so much of a rush I pushed my sister out of my way to get here. What always helps me is focusing on the big picture and that always help me regain a new positive outlook on life. Being legally blind made me fight even harder to fulfill any of my dreams but with a healthy dose of zeal and determination. I come out victoriously.
Sometimes being an over achiever can make one choose pathways of life to soon and I did this by becoming a teen mother. Being a teen mom and legally blind did not hinder me from obtaining a nursing degree. At the age of 23 I became the first in my family to finish college by becoming a nurse. I felt so proud and honored to complete this goal to me nothing is impossible. I worked throughout my life until a few years ago I was struck down by illness which halted my 18 year career. This lead me to rethink my life by assessing what other options were out there for me.
Which now brings me to the next chapter of my big adventure by getting an education again, but now doing so a little older and wiser? I want to pursue my bachelor's degree in criminal justice followed by law school. A few people might wonder why I chose this well I chose this new career path because I still wanted to help others just in a different way. I still want to make a difference to this world I leave behind.
A few other fun facts about me I enjoy traveling. I have been to a few places like Germany, Holland, Mexico. Traveling to these places showed me how other cultures live. I love to write poetry, sing write music and paint. For me having a creative mind keeps me positive and happy. I love to cook I try to cook from various cultures which makes living with me interesting you never know what I might cook up. My family dubs me the "casserole lady. "
In conclusion I do look forward to getting to know you all. Also one
