Abstract

This paper will discuss the portfolio analysis of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital which

has been grouped into categories such as stars, problem children, dogs, and cash crows.

With the present recession, Phoebe has seen growth in what used to be a struggle on the

Hospital to meet operational margins, and profits. There are many reasons as to why the

new increase in patient debts, the more common are, poor accounting practices, lack of

patient information and correct patient populace. Obtaining the accurate patient

information which plays a large role in debt that is considered non-collectable because

patients are not able to be reached. (Phoebe Putney Hospital, 2009).

Introduction

Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital engages in providing healthcare services

throughout Southern Georgia. The key services that the hospital offers would include

cancer services, cardiac services, neurological services, orthopedic services, primary care

and women's healthcare among others. It is considered to be one of the largest healthcare

providers in Georgia, with dedication and commitment to serve the healthcare needs of

people within the community. (Southwest Georgia, 2009).

When planning to operate a hospital, there are demands that have objective and

realistic analysis. These analysis are done in order to find the key issues that are internal

and external and also are refreshed when it comes to tactics and strategies of the actual

hospital marketing plan. Understanding where the hospital is currently is fundamental

when it comes to achieving the future goals of the hospital itself. (Phoebe Putney

Hospital, 2009).

Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital is well known for its quality of services and the

provisions that are made when it comes to medical care. During the past year the Phoebe

has tried hard to entice more members of staff, in particular the nursing staff. The nursing

staffs aspect definitely have improved within the past year than it has in recent years.

While in the past Phoebe's high turnover rate has affected the staff, especially the

nursing, funds that were inadequate played a huge role in this turnover. Even though
