ROLE OF GOVERNMENT IN PAKISTAN
AS A PROVIDER OF BASIC NECESSITIES
The ultimate role of the government is to provide basic necessities to every citizen and protect the fundamental rights of its citizens. During the Great migration, the first challenge faced by the government was to facilitate that huge number of people who chose to become the citizens of this new country. The challenge was to provide these people with food and shelter. With a small amount of money in hand, the Government at that time under the leadership of the father of the Nation, provided shelter and made temporary camps for the migrants. This was a task that needed to be administered by a organized body that can control the rationing and provision of basic necessities at that like water etc. Here the role of the government comes into the play as no other organization can undertake such a huge task on private basis.
AS A PROTECTOR OF LIFE AND PROPERTY
Government protects the life and property of its citizens. It is the basic fundamental right of a citizen to enjoy safety of his life in his country. The government of that country can only ensure and safeguard the life of its citizen. No other private institution can safeguard the life of the people as an obligation only if a citizen hire a personal bodyguard or simply is related to any political party existing in Pakistan and obviously latter is an exception. So, the government protects the life of the citizens from internal and external threats. The protection of property rights means the provision of secure shelter to the citizens. No citizen would be willing to live in a country where he is not allowed to have a shelter to lead his life. The role of the government here is to ensure shelter to its citizen and protect this right through lawful means from illegal encroachments.
MAINTAINING THE LAW AND ORDER CONDITIONS
The Government's role is to maintain the law and order situations internally and externally as well. For this purpose, Government has made three important institutions i.e Armed forces, Naval forces and Air Forces to safeguard the country from external factors and intelligence agencies look into the internal and external trouble makers. They inform the government before time and only good, competent and diligent governments take radical steps to tackle the situations before hand or at least minimize the chances of unrest. Unfortunately, Pakistan is fighting war of terror (not its own war though) from years. Pakistan has become vulnerable due to this war. It is the role of the Government to protect its citizens from internal threats too. But still we have uncontrolled bombings, Talibans, drone attacks, and had the famous terrorist The Osama Bin Ladin in our own territory and surprisingly our government refused to have any information about that.
