Sears Roebuck and Company is a retailer of multi-line merchandise and founded by R.W. Sears in 1886. R.W. The goods and products of Sears are available primarily in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. To remain competitive in the retail marketing industry, and move the ranking of Sears up from fifth, the decision to restructure became a reality. Sears separated the corporation into the types of products, and into individual domestic sectors: Services would focus sales, installation of products, repairs, and other services. The corporation sector and the home improvement services sector. A financial and credit sector provide the management of Sears receivables, and the MasterCard credit card department; this sector sold in 2003. The Corporate sector handles all services for home improvements.

Sears Corporation is a full-line and specialty provider. Operations include the online sales catalog, online, and in store customer sales. The stores are open for business in approximately 1,100 different locations and are competitive in sales that include clothing, jewelry, appliances, tools, automotive, and gardening equipment.

Strategy and tactics

Reviewing the mission, vision, and values statement identified tactics in terms of using a strategy to increase sales. The number of service calls are identified as a tactic to support the previous strategy statement encouraging consumers to purchase home services. The following is provided by Sears Holdings Corporation, 2011: "We are the nation's largest provider of home services, with more than 11 million service calls made annually." Advertizing is a form of strategizing and tactics. In one of the most recent advertisements the slogan of "Cyber Monday" and "Beat the Heat" included an add with varying percentages off certain products. The strategy is getting the consumer in the store by encouraging purchases online and suggesting the store is a cool place to shop. The tactics in of this add is identified in the listing of the products reduced in price. The add does not give specifics in terms of the name brand or the size of the product, leaving the interpretation to the consumer, and offering the lesser of the products for the reduced price. Sears has a Kenmore Elite 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator on sale for $1439.99 from $1999.99 but the add does not tell the consumer that each store may have stocked only one of the items listed for sale.

Strategic management process

The strategic management process is identified in the mission, vision, and value statement of Sears. Review of the document indicates Sears Holdings is a provider that can be trusted with quality service that will improve the lives of the consumer. Staff are identified as a valued team, projected as honest, and providing positive energy.

The strategic management process would benefit from identifying the service behind the products retailed through Sears Holdings Corporation; identify the quality and dependability of the products through positioning Sears Holdings Corporation as standing behind the products retailed.
