The plot of The Hunger Games (2008) novel is very interesting. The story is very exciting and unpredictable. The plot has all the elements. It has adventure, action, suspense, drama and romance. The characters are very realistic and relatable to all people of all kinds and ages. It emphasizes on the importance of hope and courage. It brings the readers in every scene of the story and the readers feel like they are also in each battle the lead characters have encountered. The plot also brings the readers in a setting that is new to them and not typical in the other novels.

The characters are realistic and believable. The novel showed the natural instinct of any human which is survival. The characters showed that for them to survive they need to compete and do everything to survive even if takes to kill other people or betray a friend or an alliance.

The instinct of the characters to need other people whether it is friendship or love is believable and realistic. In times of danger and survival, trust and attraction can happen among people like the friendship between Katniss and Rue from the district four; and attraction and admiration between Katniss and Peeta.

The protective instinct of Katniss to volunteer and save her little sister from the fight is believable. Any family member would sacrifice his or her life to protect her loved ones. I am very much convinced that the characters projected in the novel are believable and realistic that I can even relate to some of them in many events of my life.

The author used a small of hint humor. I see the majority of the story as a very serious story especially that the lead character Katniss is very focus to survive and the events are intense. I love that the author has kept the reader guessing if the character of Peeta is good or not. It is also helps that the author makes the rules of the fight change from time to time. This kept the reader from guessing what the ending will be and who will survive.

I learned a lot from this book. I learned about the love among the family is very strong that one can sacrifice his life to save and protect his family. I also learned how to be strong and how can the instinct for survival can be desperate that one can kill other people in order to survive and live. I learned also how important trust and loyalty. I learned that there are times that its is only yourself can trust and you need to be independent, but at the same time I realized how true that "man cant live alone in an island." People need people to survive just like in some instances that Katniss was saved by other people.

Most importantly, I learned that in life it is important that you are ready and strong at all times , just like the most important line in this novel, "May the odds be ever in your favor." One could be lucky or not so one needs to be prepared in life. I also learned about the importance of hope. Prince Snow
