TRAFFIC COUNT SURVEY IN THE AREA OF THE METHANOL FACTORY SITE

61 Ayiou Pavlou str., 1107

1.       Introduction

The purpose of this traffic survey is to determine the number of passing vehicles at two given locations. This data establishes the traffic flow in two roads at specific time periods. These two roads are located in close proximity to the proposed methanol plant site. The area under survey is  characterized  by  heavy  industrial  developments  and  agriculture  land  use.  Because  the presence of other industried facilities a good percentage of the traffic consists of heavy vehicles (see Table 1 and Table 2 of this report). The traffic in the future is expected to increase because of the wider area around the methanol plant site will be used by other industrial facilities related with the energy sector.

The area road network in the area of the Methanol plant site includes two prime roads (see

Figure1):

    Nicosia – Limassol highway (A1)

    The old Nicosia-Limassol Road (B1)

All other roads in the area are mostly used for serving the industrial area

2.       Traffic network in the area of the methanol plant site

The traffic survey was conducted at two sites, site A and site B, in E107 roadway, located west of Zygi Village. Site A is situated outside the industrial Fuel Storage Area (Vitol Fuel Farm) (Figure 3). This roadway is mostly used by heavy vehicles. Site B is located, 900m west from Zygi, in E107 roadway. During the traffic survey the vehicles using the road leading to the methanol plant site were also recorded.

The survey recording period was conducted from 06:00 - 18:00 to both sites of the roads on 26

March 2015. Therefore the data includes both lanes of the roadways (see Figure 2). The results of the survey are presented on Table 1 and Table 2.
