Costa Rica
Jacob Erricolo
My day started off with my mom hovering over me waking me up. I was just trying to get some sleep considering I thought I had school that day. When really (it was Friday) I was suppose to hop in the shower at five AM and then get in my car and go try to catch an eight AM flight to Orlando. To me it was one unforgettable wake up call.
I was suppose to go to Costa Rica for February vacation but as it turned out the trip was almost cancelled due to the winter storm warnings, then last minute the trip was put back on. Landing in Orlando was no big deal I figured we had maybe a two hour layover but then all of a sudden a winter storm warning went off again this time for Atlanta, that was the airport that I was suppose to fly to from Orlando, and my two hour layover turned into a thirty hour layover. I never expected to sleep in an airport but as luck would have it I did, and it was one experience I never want to encounter again.
After Orlando and not bathing for almost two days I felt gross just sitting in Atlanta, people giving me dirty looks because well I was dirty. However after sitting in the Atlanta Airport for now additional eight hours I was just ready to go home, I didn't want to go to Costa Rica and I definitely did not want to be sitting in "Terminal 17 E" for another second. As fait would have it, are plane was delayed and there I was sitting for another two hours (40 hours total in layovers!) of just sitting around not doing anything.
Finally our flight arrives and we all get boarded on the plane was my nightmare over absolutely not. See if there is one thing you learn about vacations its to forget about all your problems and enjoy yourself, not on the plane ride to Costa Rica, my ex-girlfriend sat next to me and if it couldn't get worse the turbulence that was rocking my stomach full of Atlanta's airport's finest food court snacks was about to make an entrance.
I ran to the bathroom and made it, however I now was told to stay put because of the bumps so not only did I smell bad but now I was trapped with what ever made an entrance from Atlanta. We then proceeded to land in Costa Rica and caught a cab to our hotel in San Jose, not the nicest city but a starting point to a week full of adventures I would soon come to realize I will never forget. I repelled down a 300ft cliff into a water fall, I zip lined threw the canopy's of the rain forest, made new friends that I never knew went to my school and best of all found a scorpion crawling threw my sheets of my bed.
Was the wait worth it for Costa Rica? You bet! But there is one important lesson bring deodorant and body spray with you on your carry on because you never know how long you might have to wait.
