For more than nine decades the name Walt Disney has been paramount in the fields of family amusement. From the unassuming beginning as a cartoon study in the 1920's to today's global corporation, The Walt Disney Company continues to proudly offer excellence amusement for every member of the family across America and around the world. The original mission statement of the Walt Disney Company was to nurture the imaginations of children around the world as well as to celebrate American values (thewaltdisneycompany.com). This was a straightforward mission statement for an originally simple company. As the Walt Disney Company has developed and changed over the years, the mission statement has grown to accommodate all aspects of the company. Currently, Disney states that the mission of The Walt Disney Company is to be one of the world's leading producers and providers of entertainment and information. Using our portfolio of brands to differentiate our content, services and consumer products, we seek to develop the most creative, innovative and profitable entertainment experiences and relates products in the world (thewaltdisneycompany.com).

While analyzing the mission statement concepts for The Walt Disney Company, original mission statement compared to the current one varies greatly. In the original mission statement as compared to the current one the two things that remained the same were the market and the technology concepts, in which Disney has always been the leader in the industry. The mission statement is the most visible and public part of the strategic management process (David, 2011).

The Walt Disney Company has a very detailed plan on how to accomplish their mission, which they refer to as corporate responsibility. There are guidelines that were set up for the company are expected of everyone who works for the Walt Disney Company and its affiliates; from the CEO, right down to the person that is dressed as Mickey Mouse. These components of the Walt Disney Company are as follow: Business Standards and Ethics, this component details how the company should operate. The company also provides general business standards and ethics training through its personalized business conduct training center. Corporate governance, this portion consists of standards of the board of directors for the company. It creates guidelines on the appropriate number of board members, and how board meetings should be conducted. It also outlines a strict code of conduct and ethical standard for board members, board bylaws, and how outside communication with the board should be conducted. Community, the community aspect covers the social responsibility of the Walt Disney Company. Through programs Disney gives financial donations to thousands of non-profit organizations around the world.
