Healthcare has been a major concern in the United States and over the past thirty years, the healthcare industry has experienced some minor and major changes. The industry is in a continuous cycle of diversity change and improvement. Such cycle of change and improvement has resulted in changes to legislature and regulation, and has sparked interesting conversations amongst the insurance companies, healthcare professionals, employers and patients. With so many concerns regarding healthcare diversity, any discussion would need to be focused on a specific area of interest. Health Care Service Corporation is (HCSC) operates the Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, employing more than 16,000 people and serving more than 13 million members 38 percent in national employer plans, 32 percent in large local employer plans, 10 percent in small employer plans, 10 percent in individual plans and 10 percent in government plans. HCSC is the fourth largest health insurance company in the United States and the largest customer-owned health insurer. Accountability to customers rather than investors allows HCSC to develop health care solutions with more flexibility and long-term perspective and enables the company to weather cyclical economic patterns without resorting to bottom line-driven price increases. HCSC made the top 50 companies for diversity list in 2011. I choose HCSC since they take accountability to its customers rather than investors enables HCSC to weather cyclical economic patterns without resorting to bottom line price increase. HCSCH provides the same level of level of service to its members and to our physicians and hospitals on the first day of the quarter as it does on the last day of the quarter. HCSC's mission is to promote the health and wellness of its members and communities through accessible, cost effective, quality health care. Additionally, HCSC takes seriously its obligation to share in the responsibility for addressing the needs of the communities where it dose businesses. At HCSC, we have worked on solutions for the uninsured in may states, they provide millions of dollars to eligible charitable, educational and governmental organizations to support programs and projects to that address wellness and health care access and affordability issues, we partner with public and private organizations to provide heath care services to disadvantages children. HCSC employees volunteers thousands of hours of personal time in company coordinated programs for community initiatives that improve health and well being.
